What is an Enrolled Agent
An Enrolled Agent is a Tax Expert. They are licensed to practice by the Federal Government, and are the only accountants that are permitted to appear before the IRS in an unlimited representation of their clients.
The Enrolled Agent prepares tax returns for trusts, estates, individuals, businesses, partnerships, or anyone with tax reporting needs. They can also offer advice on tax matters.
They are licensed and acquire their licenses by either one of two means, passing a comprehensive tax exam or having worked for the IRS for five years in a position that required the regular use of the tax code and its regulations. The IRS requires a vigorous background check on all the candidates. They must also complete 72 hours of continuing education every three years, and are bound by a code of ethics.
